About Protein Intake Calculator
proteinintakecalculator.online is a free, science-based nutrition tool built to help people quickly and accurately determine how much protein they need each day — whether they're trying to lose weight, build muscle, maintain their physique, or support demanding athletic training.
Why We Built This
Most protein calculators online are either oversimplified (output a single number based only on weight) or buried inside bloated fitness apps requiring signup. We wanted something different: a fast, no-account-required tool that uses established sports nutrition research and gives you a meaningful, personalized result in under a minute.
We also noticed a gap in available resources for specific populations — particularly people taking GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Wegovy, where protein planning is critical but under-discussed in mainstream tools. Our calculator and content address this directly.
Our Formulas
The calculator uses two peer-reviewed formulas to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR):
- Mifflin-St Jeor equation — the default formula, validated across large population studies as the most accurate BMR predictor for most adults.
- Katch-McArdle equation — unlocked when you provide your body fat percentage, this formula bases the calculation on lean body mass, making it more accurate for athletes and lean individuals.
Protein targets are derived from evidence-based ranges published by leading sports nutrition organizations including the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) and corroborated by a broad body of peer-reviewed literature on protein and body composition.
What We Cover
Protein ranges optimized to preserve muscle mass during a calorie deficit (1.6–2.2 g/kg).
Targets based on the ISSN's hypertrophy-optimized range with per-meal guidance (1.8–2.5 g/kg).
Balanced daily targets to support active lifestyles and healthy body composition (1.2–1.6 g/kg).
Higher-end targets for competitive athletes and those in physically demanding roles (2.0–3.1 g/kg).
Specific guidance for people taking semaglutide or tirzepatide — a content differentiator not found in most nutrition tools.
Dedicated coverage of protein needs across activity levels, pregnancy, and menopause.
Our Commitment to Accuracy
We do our best to base all content on published scientific literature and recognized nutritional guidelines. Where research evolves, we update our content accordingly. That said, the calculator provides estimates — individual needs vary, and our results are not a substitute for advice from a registered dietitian or healthcare provider.
Privacy First
All calculations happen entirely in your browser. We never collect, transmit, or store any of the personal details you enter into the calculator. See ourPrivacy Policy for full details.
